The US at one time was a powerhouse of manufacturing but over the last few decades, in an effort to reduces costs, North American companies began offshoring manufacturing to other parts of the world. Some manufacturing began to boomerang back to these shores in recent years and the industry was growing. Then in 2020 COVID-19 shone the light on some of the negative aspects of offshoring as supply of necessary goods from across the world was just not available. This has got the US government and manufacturing thinking reshoring – the opportunities and the challenges.
